Innocence For Solo Piano, Ron Mazurek
Program Notes:
Innocence (2002) is an offering to all children who are brought into this world and must exist in the tragic circumstances of their existence. It is a simple meditation of hope for a life worth living.
- Ron Mazurek
Final Bell For Solo Piano, Ron Mazurek
Program Notes:
Final Bell (2001) for piano solo was inspired by the television picture of the first fire truck racing to the site of the 9/11 tragedy. This left an indelible impression upon me knowing that those firefighters never would return. Final Bell was written in memory of those men who answered their calling. – Ron Mazurek
Butterfly Dreams For Solo Piano, Ron Mazurek
Program Notes:
Butterfly Dreams (2003) was written for a multimedia production based on the Tao. The brief poem, The Butterfly Dream,” a story of transformation, was the impetus for this composition. – Ron Mazurek
Diurne,For Piano, Daniel Palkowski
Program Notes:
Diurne is the second piece in a suite for piano composed in the early 90's. It is an homage to Debussy, one of the chief composers I've played over the years. The title is a twist on the term 'nocturne' (night piece), and refers to a similar feeling of meditation one might achieve in a pleasant place on a hot summer day. It was premiered by Shi-Ling Shih in 1991. - Daniel Palkowski
Echoes of Icaus For Piano, Daniel Palkowski
Echoes of Icarus began as an orchestrated piece, but after I realized it was inspired (in feel at least) by Ralph Towner's Icarus, I decided to make it a solo. I'd say in addition to Towner, there's probably a good deal of Delibes influence in there as well, and alternating between the softness of the latter and the jazziness of the former is what the piece requires in the performance. - Daniel Palkowski
Movement For Piano, Daniel Palkowski
Movement was created around 1989 originally & modified several times thereafter. It was to be one of the pieces played by my ensemble Not Elvis, but found its way into the solo world instead. The piece is intended to be both completely accessible and rhythmically/structurally compelling for the performer. - Daniel Palkowski
Variations For Piano, Daniel Palkowski
Variations was written around 1982 and is dedicated to Ludmilla Ulehla, with whom I was studying counterpoint at the time. It is intended to be played either by itself, or as an end piece to the Suite (Aubade, Diurne, Minuet/Intermezzo, Variations). It was premiered by Shi-Ling Shih in 1982.
- Daniel Palkowski
