Biography
Mr. Hardish has studied music at the Juilliard School, Queens College of the CUNY (BA), Bennington College, and graduate music studies at Columbia University. Some of his teachers have included composition with Louis Calabro, Juan Lemann, Otto Luening, Willliam Schimmel, and Hugo Weisgall, orchestration with Jacob Druckman and Howard Shanet, contemporary performance practice with Harvey Sollberger, and film and theater music with Frank Lewin. Before becoming a composer he played drums in dance bands and to a much lesser estent in musicals. He also holds a MS degree in library and information science from the Pratt Institute. He is co-founder and co-director of the Composers Concordance and is a Senior Librarian at The New York Public Library.
Patrick Hardish has had his music performed throughout the United States, Eruope, Brazil and Japan. Commissions have come from the Composers Guild of NJ (for Peter Jarvis), Queens Philharnonia, Adolphe Saxquartette, the North South Consonance Ensemble, and others. His music is published by Calabrese Brothers, and Deffner Publications and is recorded on Capstone (The Hoffmann/Goldstein Duo) and Finnadar (William Schimmel, accordion). Two forthcoming Capstone CD's will include performances by Esther Lamneck, clarinet, and again the piano/pecussion team of the Hoffmann/Goldstein Duo.
Mr. Hardish has been in residence at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, has lectured and has given presentations of his music at New York University and the Governor's School for the Gifted in Virginia, has been guest composer at WNYC-FM, and WKCR-FM Radio at Columbia University, has received several awards from Meet The Composer, and has been awarded the Margaret Fairbanks Jory Coyping Assistance Program Award from the American Music Center. He has contributed to MLA's Notes and the New Music Connoisseur magazine where he serves on that magazine's Editorial Board.
